3. Free Agency Isn’t as Important as the Draft

Every offseason, the Cowboys fanbase has hopes that Dallas will make a big splash in free agency, which then turns to frustration that big-name players aren’t being signed, which finally turns to hope that they just sign their own free agents. That is the process for this organization.

At this point, you have to assume that this front office has changed their thought on free agency. Signing big-name free agents is no longer a part of their strategy. Instead, they’ve shifted their focus to what they consider priority free agents on their roster and, from there, players that won’t break the bank but will be able to contribute.

Basically, anyone outside of their clubhouse could be seen as a non-priority to this team. When you look at it that way, in the Cowboys’ front office’s eyes, they are winning in free agency. But it also shows that their reliance on free agency isn’t what it once was, making it less important to them now with more focus placed on the NFL Draft and finding quality and value there instead. While most of the NFL continues to spend in free agency, the Cowboys are deeming it as more of a hole plugger, which could benefit them in the long run.
