Cowboys Mock Draft: Dallas makes 2 trades up
Sixth-Round Pick (193rd overall): Cameron Dicker, Kicker, Texas
You do not realize how important a kicker is until you do not have a good one. Last year, Greg Zuerlein was inconsistent at best. He missed extra points and field goals that were costly throughout the season.
So instead of trying another journeyman kicker, the Cowboys should finally address the position in the draft with Cameron Dicker. His college career was very good and included plenty of big-time kicks. Dicker also filled in as a punter when the Longhorns punter got hurt, which could be helpful if anyone gets injured.
After addressing several needs, the Cowboys mine as well take a swing on a kicker in the sixth round. If he can become as good as expected, then they just drafted an NFL starter in the sixth round. If not, it did not cost much. Plus, we all saw what happened with the Cincinnati Bengals when they selected Evan McPherson last year in the fifth round. People initially laughed, but he was a huge asset to the team.
Overall, I think this would be a great draft situation for the Cowboys if they can pull it off. They have a history of not trading up in the draft, but we all know Jerry Jones likes to make a splash.
