With Dalton Shultz currently playing on the franchise tag this season and very little depth on the roster, the team seems to be very interested in adding a tight end in this draft. The Cowboys used four of their 30 draft visits on tight ends. One of those is Jelani Woods.

Woods is a great vertical target the team could develop this season in case Schultz leaves for free agency next season. Currently, Woods is expected to be taken as early as the third round and as late as the fifth round. This provides a good spot in round four for the team to target the Virginia product.

Another tight end prospect on the Cowboys’ radar is Ohio State product Jeremy Ruckert. Ruckert is very similar to Schultz as he’s a sure-handed security blanket that can block as well.

As I said before, the Schultz contract situation is something to watch next season. If he doesn’t sign an extension, it would be smart to take a tight end in the mid-rounds. Ruckert could be a good option in the fourth.

Right now, Ruckert is expected to go anywhere between rounds three and five, similar to Woods. It sounds like round four could be a good time to address the future at tight end for the ‘Boys.
