Cowboys 2022 NFL Mock Draft 4.0 features wild Jerry Jones-inspired trades
With the 56th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select…
DeMarvin Leal, Defensive Tackle – Texas A&M
Height: 6’3″ Weight: 284lbs
Career Stats: 133 total tackles, 25 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, 1 interception, 6 passes defended, 2 forced fumbles
Last season, we saw how much pressure was put on opposing quarterbacks. The pressure from the defensive line affected the rest of the defense and led the Cowboys to one of their best seasons on that side of the football. A big factor in that was how Dan Quinn was able to keep Micah Parsons moving around the defense causing the offense to make quick adjustments on the fly.
Why not bring in another player that can do the same? Leal can be used to stop the running game but can also really be effective in the passing game. He has a quick first step that helps him apply pressure up the middle or at the defensive end. Leal is small for his position but plays with a lot of power, and with that first step, he will be a load to handle.
Reason for the pick: In 2021, Dallas drafted defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa who was able to come in and cause problems in the middle of the defensive line on passing downs in his rookie year. Adding more young defensive talent to the line could be a huge long-term gain for the Cowboys. Offenses will have a hard time handling Leal and Odighizuwa along with DeMarcus Lawrence and Dante Fowler Jr.
