Chris Olave’s Strengths

Red-Zone Ability: Arguably the best aspect of his game, the OSU legend is elite at getting in the endzone. Olave has 35 career touchdowns, good for most in Buckeye history and fourth-most in Big Ten history. He also finished first in the conference and sixth in all of college football in receiving touchdowns last season. If there’s one thing that you can rely on with Olave, it’s that he can finish drives off nicely.

Route Running: Another fantastic part of this prospect’s game is that he is a route running technician. A route running mastermind if you will. His route running creates separation on its own and he doesn’t even have to rely on his 4.3 speed. He just explodes off the line of scrimmage and uses double moves, jabs, and jukes to create that separation and can break away within a second. This allows him to become a target in any scheme in the league.

Big-Play Ability: If a team knows how to space the field well, then a big play is just waiting to happen with Olave. He has breakaway speed along with a great skillset in finding open space to work with. He won’t be breaking tackles every play, but when in space, look out for huge chunk plays. Over his career, Chris averaged 15.4 yards per reception.

Ball Skills: Olave has the length and vertical to go up and catch over defenders. He is good at tracking the ball and catching at the high point. He has a decent catch radius but often negates the need to catch away from his body due to his speed and ability to adjust on off-target throws.

Hands: Concentration drops are not a concern for Olave. He has a good knack for securing the ball before turning upfield and rarely drops a pass on target and to the torso. In four years, Olave has just nine drops on over 250 targets.
