2. Jordan Hicks, LB, Arizona Cardinals

Okay, so let’s give Dallas the benefit of the doubt and say that they really tried for Miller, but he was too expensive. Still not an excuse. There were plenty of affordable linebackers out there with loads of talent to help this roster. Jordan Hicks was one of them. The former Cardinal was actually cut by the Arizona two weeks ago, so Dallas had plenty of time to pursue him.

The linebacker was a team captain for the Cardinals and had impressive stats during his time in Arizona. He played in every game for three seasons with Arizona. That’s a level of durability that Gregory couldn’t even provide. His 51 consecutive games played is the third-longest active streak among all NFL linebackers. The former Cardinal’s age didn’t stop him either. In 2021, he had a career-high four sacks and 116 tackles. Hicks is an underrated veteran with a Super Bowl ring and a lot of experience.

What makes this even harder to swallow is how little money the veteran linebacker ended up signing for. The Minnesota Vikings essentially stole Hicks with a two-year, $12 million deal. Hicks could have been a great addition to line up alongside Parsons at linebacker. This could have been an easy, affordable signing for the Cowboys.
