2. Jayron Kearse/Malik Hooker vs Zach Ertz

The Cowboys are quite familiar with former Philadelphia Eagle, Zach Ertz. In fact, back in Week 3, Ertz played against the Cowboys as a member of the Eagles. But, his mid-season trade to Arizona has brought Ertz back to Dallas here in Week 17.

Since Arizona’s top wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins went down with an injury in Week 14, Ertz has become one of Kyler Murray’s top receiving threats. Over the last three weeks, Ertz has received 31 targets, resulting in 19 catches. That is the most targets and tied for the most catches by any Cardinals player in that span.

The Cowboys’ revolving door at safety means that Ertz might go up against multiple players. Jayron Kearse has the size and Malik Hooker has the coverage ability. Both players can present something different, which will only help their chances of limiting the former Eagle.

Hooker missed last week’s game because he was placed on the COVID-19 list, but he should be good to go for this week. He is also coming off his best game as a Cowboy when they played the Giants, so hopefully, he can keep the good times rolling.

It is a shame Kearse did not get more recognition for the Pro Bowl with the season he is having. He continues to make plays week in and week out and hopefully he will continue to help the defense shut down Ertz this week.
