1. Madden points out Aikman’s lack of facial hair

In probably one of his most memorable on-air moments, Madden ditched the football talk to point out Hall of Famer Troy Aikman’s inability to grow facial hair.

Madden said he looked as close as he could to try and find Aikman’s “four-day beard.” To further his point, the broadcast puts up a zoomed-in still photo of Aikman where Madden uses the telestrator to point out his lack of facial hair.

Pat Summerall advises Madden to give Aikman time since the quarterback just turned 29.

This was the kind of unique and silly commentary people came to love from Madden. That, combined with his detailed knowledge of the game, is just one of the many reasons he was an incredible broadcaster.

If you are looking to relive more incredible moments from Madden’s career and hear what some of the greatest NFL figures have to say about him, FOX Sports is re-airing its ALL MADDEN documentary in primetime Thursday evening at 8 pm ET. There are also many other ways to view the 90-minute feature that came out just three days before Madden’s passing.
