Cowboys vs. WFT: The Ugly = Dak Prescott

Without any semblance of a consistent run game, the pressure is sitting squarely on quarterback Dak Prescott and the passing game. Couple that with missed games by the top two receivers recently, and it’s not shocking to see some regression.

Unfortunately, it’s abundantly clear that Prescott is struggling heavily. This is no referendum on Dak as a leader or a player. Prescott is still one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Right now, however, he is playing very poorly. In three of his last four games, Prescott has failed to throw for more than 240 yards. In those three games, he has just two touchdowns that don’t overshadow his five interceptions.

Prescott’s two interceptions on Sunday were unusually bad. His first was a complete overthrow on a ball which should have just been to the outside of his receiver. Instead, he tried to drop it in over a linebacker and air-mailed everyone, getting picked off by the safety.

His second interception was one of his worst throws that I can remember throughout his whole career. On a simple bootleg, instead of continuing to move and find the open passing window, he inexplicably just stopped, throwing the ball right to the defender which was returned for a touchdown.

His accuracy has regressed of late. In five of his last six games, he has thrown 14, 15, 15, 17, and 20 incompletions. In four of the six, he has averaged under six yards per attempt.

It might be unfair to put it all on Prescott, but quarterbacks get all the glory and all the scrutiny. The elite quarterbacks find a way to make it work. With the playoffs coming around the corner, it’s time for Prescott to do just that.

The Cowboys head to New Jersey this Sunday to take on an ailing New York Giants team. Let’s hope we see a continuing dominance from the defense and a new revamp on offense.
