Dallas Cowboys: 3 roster issues and the level of concern
By Brad Austin
OUTSIDE CORNERBACK
Second-round rookie draft pick Kelvin Joseph appears headed to short-term injured reserve. While he will be able to rejoin the team after three games, the absence will distance him further behind in his attempts to claim the starting left corner spot.
Despite Maurice Canady consistently showing he was the second-best corner in training camp, it appears Dallas will not utilize him as one of the three starting corners. Brown is serviceable on the outside but will be a liability against high talent receivers like the nasty Tampa Bay trio coming in the opener.
With Joseph out, the best option would be to start Canady opposite of right corner Trevon Diggs. Brown and Jordan Lewis could then scrap it out to decide the slot corner role, just as they’ve done in the past.
Nevertheless, Dallas plans to start Brown at left outside corner. The player who’s not even the third-best outside corner on the team.
