3. There are different areas of need

Jerry Jones is known for loading up on offense. It makes for an exciting team that will compete and sells tickets. Unfortunately, it is what held the team back from playoff success for years.

Defense is half of the game, but the Cowboys haven’t treated it as such. While the 2021 defense is better than some we saw in the past, they aren’t exactly intimidating.

Year-over-year, the Cowboys need to add to their defenders. This time around, Jerry did it by drafting eight defensive players and signing two starters.

He needs to continue adding players to avoid falling short in the playoffs yet again. Having an average defense does not cut it anymore. Julio’s cut of the salary cap can pay for an impact defensive lineman rather than yet another wideout.

To put it into perspective, $19.2 million can buy you all but 21 total defensive players. C.J. Mosley, Danielle Hunter, and Tre’Davious White are top players in their respective positions that cost fewer than $19.2 million next season.
