Cowboys trade shakes up strategy in new mock draft

Round 7, pick 238, Brenden Jaimes, Tackle- Nebraska
The Dallas Cowboys’ offensive line was bad last season. That fact was due in no small part to the injuries of both of the teams’ starting offensive tackles Tyron Smith and La’el Collins. Smith, who recently turned 30, has failed to play in more than 13 games in a season since 2015.
The Cowboys attempt to shore up the depth of its offensive line while also hoping to potentially luck into Smith’s successor with its last pick in the draft. The team does this by selecting offensive lineman Brenden Jaimes.
The six-foot-six, 300-pound lineman has the athleticism to play virtually any position along the offensive line despite mostly playing left tackle during his collegiate career with Nebraska. His versatility is a major selling point with this pick for the Cowboys who are hoping he can fill in when needed at nearly any position.
During his collegiate career, Jaimes broke the Cornhusker record for most consecutive starts by an offensive lineman by starting 40 games in a row. His combination of versatility and durability make him an ideal selection for Dallas as it tries to shore up the depth of its offensive line.
The Dallas Cowboys address a growing need with their final pick in the draft. The team is also hoping to potentially find a late-round steal with this selection in a draft that is stacked with talent along the offensive line.
