It’s In His DNA

The Dallas Cowboys have a third really good reason to take Patrick Surtain with the 10th pick as well. When it comes to sports, all sports are not created equal.

When you think about the NBA, typically, genealogy has not meant success for father/son combinations. The most apparent is, of course, His Airness.

Michael Jordan is the greatest NBA player ever, of all time, however, none of his sons ever came close to making a full-time NBA roster. That isn’t quite the case in the NFL.

NFL Play Is In His DNA

When you think about Howie Long, Chris Long, and Kyle Long, or Craig Iron Head Heyward and Cam Heyward, just to name a few of the father/son combos, those genes or that genealogy translates more in football. Not that he’s destined to be a three-time Pro Bowler or an All-Pro like his father was, once upon a time, but it does mean that you are starting out a little bit ahead of where you typically are.

That’s not only because of his DNA, naturally, but what’s been instilled there from seeing his father do the things he did and the way he did them. That’s the third reason for the Cowboys to take Surtain Jr.

He has a pedigree from not only Alabama but from a DNA standpoint, that typically works out well in the NFL. Listen, the Cowboys need a ton on defense, however, if you have a good secondary, that covers up a lot.

Where they need a ton of help stopping the run, dependable defensive backfield players allow you to throw more at the run stop. On the other side, if they can cover their butts off, then the front has no choice but to wreak havoc on the opposing quarterback, as he has to hold on to the ball longer.

One hand washes the other and all that jazz. These though, have been the three reasons why Patrick Surtain II would be a great draft grab for Dallas.
