Marcus Maye

The Dallas Cowboys spent so much time and resources trying to acquire then Jets safety Jamal Adams when they might have been targeting the wrong Jets safety. Marcus Maye has shown that he too should be considered among the upper echelon of safeties with his strong play.

It is especially meaningful that he played hard for every play for a team that no doubt was heading in the wrong direction. That type of self-starting motivation is also needed in Dallas. Taking plays off is not what Maye is accustomed to.

I originally thought that Maye, who uses his body as a missile, would be better suited to play strong safety but having  Jamal Adams prevented that move.

I believe that was a great decision as May was able to grow as a free safety that carries strong safety roots. His Pro Football Focus grade of 82.3 is the highest grade amongst all five safeties in this article and nobody on this list is above 80.

When Adams was traded, the Jets asked Maye to do more in their scheme to try and pick up the slack left by Adams’s departure. The interesting thing about Maye is that he graded out almost 20 points higher than Adams this past season.

the Jets have just hired a new defensive-minded head coach in Robert Saleh so I do not anticipate Maye leaving without a fight. If he indeed does hit the free-agent market, I expect the Dallas Cowboys to make a play for this game-changing safety.
