ST – C.J. Goodwin

Reserve defensive back and special teams ace C.J Goodwin is a surprise Pro Bowl selection to some but if you put together his body of work this season, his splash plays put him over the top.

First, Goodwin was part of the “Snail Mary” win as he recovered that watermelon kick by Greg Zuerlein. His walling off of the defender before he recovered the football was just as important as the lack of football knowledge on the Atlanta Falcons hands team.

He was also the recipient of that fantastic throwback punt return against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Goodwin faked a hamstring injury, then caught the throwback pass from  Cedrick Wilson who promptly returned it to the opponent’s 12-yard line.

Casual fans who cannot think of a player worthy of voting into the Pro Bowl will likely remember one of those two plays and vote for Goodwin. Those experts who are also in the same boat will likely vote for Goodwin once they realize he was involved in both of those plays.

Remember, the Pro Bowl is not always about production, it’s a popularity contest at it’s finest. Regardless, Goodwin deserves to get his first Pro Bowl nod. His seven Special teams tackles leave him just two tackles shy of the league leader.
