Dallas Cowboys must be better at the basics to win
If the Dallas Cowboys’ “special teams” continue to not be so special, it will cost them more than just a game or two.
Special Teams Have To Be Better
This could have been under “do your job”, but it deserved it’s own sub-heading because the depths of the issues are just that. First off, if you can get the kick-off Mr. Zuerlein, I am going to need you to nail way more than you miss.
This goes exponentially when we are talking extra-point attempts. They are literally one of the easiest scoring plays in football. You can’t not make those, you just can’t.
Secondly, the special teams’ blockers cannot let a guy through to get a hand on a field goal or extra-point attempt. The majority of times, those plays are just going through the motion type recitals, but you have to stay ready, as the rare time you aren’t ends up like that.
Now, finally and again, Mr. Tony Pollard. We absolutely cannot have that.
You are back there to make a play, not make things harder on your team. That’s what you did on Sunday.
If not for the onside kick attempt gone right, Zuerlein is likely looking for new employment this week. You also have to give the special teams some credit for that play, as it was huge and the New Orleans Saints showed us how it could have gone on Monday night. Still though, that doesn’t get them totally off the hook.
They have to be better. They at least have to be better than that if the Cowboys plan on winning some games and the division.
On the safety, some of you will try to say that Ezekiel Elliott could have done a little more or run a bit smarter, which he could have, but it isn’t on him. It’s on Pollard and the next basic element that has to be addressed.
