The Defense

Has this defense been dominant? No.

Has this defense been world-beaters? No.

However, with all of that, this defense has come through in a pinch. Yes, they have given up plays, but what defense hasn’t?

Even Ray Lewis’s Ravens of the 2000’s allowed points at some point, though not a ton of them.

The point is this, all defenses are going to break at some point. The offenses get paid too, they are just too good on that side of the ball, and the game is built towards the offense, but, this has to be said.

In the first two weeks of the season and as I exclaimed in Week One, when the plays needed to be made, they have stepped up and made them. You can’t say that they haven’t or you haven’t been watching.

As a matter of fact, if they didn’t make the plays and even amongst the on-side kick, the Cowboys aren’t able to get their first victory of the season on Sunday. I hadn’t even considered the change in approach by some of the players that was mentioned on Sunday’s broadcast, Tank Lawrence having to change defensive stance with changing scheme in example, but that has an impact too.

What this means is this, it isn’t an excuse, but you can see why there is a lack of aggressiveness or awareness in instances. They are unsure at times.

Even with that though, they have been effective when they need to be and they have made enough plays to give them a chance to win both games they’ve played. Luckily for them, the offense and the coaching came through on Sunday.

The segue’s are just falling into place.
