Five silver linings in Cowboys season-opening loss to Rams

3. Zeke and Dak looked great
Cowboys’ starting quarterback Dak Prescott might not have been signed to a hundred and fifty-million-dollar contract in the offseason, but he reminded us why he should have been. Even though Aaron Donald was in his face all day, Prescott didn’t get rattled.
Despite the game-wrecking of Donald and other Ram defenders, despite getting sacked three times, the Pro Bowler maintained his composure, completing 25 of 39 passes for 266 yards, and running for thirty more, coming within a hair’s breath of scoring a much-needed touchdown on a 13-yard run at the end of the first half.
Elliot scored that touchdown on a one-yard run two plays later. Elliott was excellent all through the game on Sunday, playing better than any game last season, in my humble opinion.
Even with the poor performance by the offensive line, Elliot came within four yards of a hundred-yard game, averaging 4.4 yards per carry. He was strong, quick, and elusive – slipping out of tackles again and again.
The fact that the Cowboys came so close to winning the game, despite looking not-very-good for most of the contest was primarily due to Prescott and Elliott. They reminded us why fans love them.
Notwithstanding other issues on the team, these two players remain a force to be reckoned with and provide hope for the remaining fifteen games. If the offensive line can perform better (and I think it can), it’ll be exciting to see what Prescott can do with his three number one-caliber receivers, and Elliott can do with his feet.
