Cowboys were absolutely hosed, but you should still like what you saw
The Dallas Cowboy defense was dastardly on Sunday night. They were the stars for the team with the star on their helmets.
Diggs also got his hands on another ball, that except for a poorly timed jump, likely results in another pick. Chidobe Awuzie did come away with a pick after being plastered to his man, that’s something you love to see after this defense has been void of the ability to take the ball away over the past few seasons.
That daunted defensive front… they were as advertised. Although you didn’t get the full wrath last night, it was the first game and that’s almost what makes it just that much more impressive.
Against a team that is literally built to counter what we want to do, which is to make life hell on the passer, they were still able to do that effectively. The Rams offense is all about timing, being where you’re supposed to be, and getting it done quickly.
The quick passing game naturally limits pass rushers because the play design has the ball out of the quarterback’s hands as quickly as possible anyway, effectively nullifying even the most dominant pass rushers.
The Cowboys and that man, Aldon Smith, were still able to cause a little havoc. That defensive front and him, they were the real stories from last night.
I can’t wait to see this defense continue to grow because if last night was any indication, they have a chance to be scary good.
More bad information from last night is that we likely will be without both Blake Jarwin and Leighton Vander Esch for good parts if not the entire season. LVE fractured the collarbone that supports and already worrisome neck area.
Blake Jarwin suffered a torn ACL that will most certainly keep him down for the year. There are some good options on the market though if the Cowboys go that route (paging Delanie Walker, paging Delanie Walker).
This season is setting up to be a good one. The offense has punch and the defense has ferocity.
It’s still early and for these reasons, things are looking up. One last time though on Sunday night, Dallas was hosed. Absolutely hosed.
