More Earl Thomas Drama!

I bet you thought all the Earl Thomas talk was over a year ago when he signed with the Baltimore Ravens. Just to refresh your memory, Thomas is the All-Pro safety, formerly of the Seattle Seahawks who ran up to former coach Jason Garrett after a game a few years ago, and begged the coach to “come get me”.

It was a weird moment, and kicked off more than a year of Earl Thomas hysteria, which only went away when the Ravens signed him to a $55 million, four-year contract. That all ended Sunday, or started up again, depending on how you look at it, when the Ravens released Thomas after he got in a scuffle with teammate Chuck Clark.

But apparently, that was just the last straw, as the star safety had been a distraction to the Ravens since his signing, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Now, the Cowboys have a dilemma. Should they sign the troublesome, but inarguably talented defensive back? Should they disregard these warning signs? Given the shrinking salary cap next year, can they afford to spend the money?

There’s no question that Thomas could improve the Cowboy secondary. He made 49 tackles, two sacks, and two interceptions last year. But is it worth the risk? These are all factors the Cowboys will have to consider.
