The Defensive Line is Much Better

While Dallas lost a very good defensive end in Quinn and a starter in Collins, they added two stud starters, two prospects, and one depth player with upside.

Let me put it this way. I don’t think Quinn would get 10.0+ sacks again this season, so adding Poe and McCoy cancels out losing him and more. Losing Collins, adding Smith, and the leftover value from Poe and McCoy cancels out.

This leaves the additions of Anae and Gallimore as improvements for the Cowboys. Two good young prospects that Dallas hopes will emerge into at least starters at some point in time in the next four seasons.

The defensive line is improved overall, and also has defensive lineman Tyrone Crawford returning from injury. If you count Crawford as an “addition” then that adds even more value.

Sure, Quinn is a bigger name than those that were added, but all of the players combined to form a solid group of players. Rather than having two impact defensive ends with weak depth and a weak interior line, the Cowboys have three solid starters, good depth, and an impact defensive end.

Jerry Jones was on a mission to improve the Cowboys’ defensive line, and he nailed it. Not to mention adding good players at a good price, allowing for more improvements, or even a nice contract for quarterback Dak Prescott.

While the line does look better on paper, that doesn’t mean that they will be better on the field. Starting on September 13th, we get to see this group go to work.

Do you think that this year’s defensive line is better than last year? Do you like having Quinn more? Let me know in the comments section below.
