Tight Ends

Let’s move on to the tight ends. It’s a new day (one more time) for the Dallas Cowboys and this position. Gone for good is long-time and future Hall of Fame inductee Jason Witten from the mix.  Heading into 2020, this is a young, inexperienced group looking to prove themselves.

Ultimately, I believe just three players from this position will register a catch in 2020. The signing of free agent Blake Bell was largely done to bolster this unit’s blocking abilities. Bell has never been an integral part of any passing game he’s been a part of during his previous five years in the league. That should not change too much in 2020. Look for Bell to post 11 receptions for 85 yards and his first career touchdown.

Former fourth-round pick Dalton Schultz also figures to be a small part of the passing attack, although I believe you’ll see a slight boost in his production this season. That shouldn’t be too hard to do though as he only had one catch for six yards. In 2020, I have Schultz at 14 catches or 136 yards and one score as well.

That leaves starter Blake Jarwin who was given a four-year deal this offseason worth $22 million to finally take over for Witten. Jarwin may be the most difficult player to predict.

On one hand, he’s been stuck behind Witten his entire time in Dallas with minimal opportunities. On the other hand, a huge portion of his career production came from one amazing game against the Giants at the end of 2018. Will he have a breakout 2020 campaign? I’m a little skeptical of going that far, but I do believe he’ll have a career year.

Expect Jarwin to have 48 receptions for 529 yards and four touchdowns. That would give the tight end position a total of 73 catches for 750 yards and six touchdowns.
