3. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix gets the last laugh

Speaking of former first-round picks, safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is a Dallas Cowboy and reunites with coach McCarthy. Unfortunately, there won’t be a Randall Cobb and McCarthy collaboration, but this new combo should be a fun one.

Back in the 2014 NFL Draft, I was actually pulling for the Cowboys to draft Clinton-Dix with the 16th overall pick. Instead, the Dallas Cowboys picked up guard Zack Martin, which of course turned out to be an excellent move. Five picks later, the Green Bay Packers selected Clinton-Dix, an Alabama product who helped his college win two national titles.

With quarterback Tom Brady stealing all the headlines these days, I think Clinton-Dix to Dallas was a great pick up. The Dallas Cowboys put out some of the fire in the secondary. Clinton-Dix is still young; he turned 27 last December.

Though Clinton-Dix is on his fourth team, most recently playing for the Washington Redskins and the Chicago Bears, the safety comes to Big D with some upswing. He made the Second-Team All-Pro in 2016, as well as the Pro Bowl that year.

Last season, he started all 16 games for the Bears. In 2019, he earned 78 tackles, five pass deflections, grabbed two interceptions and a touchdown as well. Just for reference, cornerback Byron Jones totaled only two interceptions in his entire career. Clinton-Dix had two in 2019, bringing his career total to 16.
