With the 51st pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select…

Antoine Winfield Jr., Safety – Minnesota

Career Stats: 30 games played, 172 total tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 9 interceptions, 6 passes defended, and 2 forced fumbles

With the Dallas Cowboys going with a replacement for Byron Jones in the first-round, the next position in desperate need of an upgrade is the safety position. Even with the Cowboys hoping to bring back safety Jeff Heath they will still need to find a young safety to help sure up the back end of this defense. There are a few safety free agents that could help, but they might come with too high of a price tag so the Cowboys most likely will look to the draft to fill this position.

Winfield Jr. could be the answer to their problems on the back end. Seen by many as a second round prospect, Winfield has been knocked for his 5-foot-10 stature, but what he lacks in height he makes up in football IQ and speed running a 4.4 at the NFL Combine last week. His ability to play either the free safety position or strong safety would give the Cowboys the ability to disguise their coverages when paired with current safety Xavier Woods who has the ability to do both as well.

Winfield Jr. would be a very solid pick in the second round for the Dallas Cowboys and give them the makings of a young and talented secondary.
