With the 82nd pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select …

Alex Highsmith, Defensive End – Charlotte

Career Stats: 45 games played, 185 total tackles, 47 tackles for loss, 21 sacks, 5 passed defended, 4 forced fumbles

The Dallas Cowboys defensive line is a group that is very much a question mark going into the 2020 NFL Draft with only DeMarcus Lawrence as the notable pass rusher on this team. Robert Quinn is going to test the free-agent market and will most likely get an offer that the Cowboys won’t be able to match.

Randy Gregory is still suspended indefinitely and no one truly knows if he will return in 2020, which only leaves the draft as a reasonable option to find another passer rusher to line up and help Lawrence.

Now many of you may not have heard the name Alex Highsmith before but he is one you will want to take a look at and remember in the future. The Cowboys have shied away from small school players recently instead they decided to go after players from more prominent schools.

But after his impressive showing at the Senior Bowl Highsmith can change all of that, his high motor and pass rush skill set would make him a perfect fit in Nolan’s 3-4/4-3 hybrid defense. He has shown the ability to beat offensive lineman with his speed and power which is impressive for a 6-foot-4, 242-pound defensive end.

Highsmith will need to add some weight onto his frame but he can still come in and make plays on passing downs for the Cowboys and take the pressure off of Lawrence who was still seeing a high amount of double teams with Quinn rushing opposite him in 2019.
