Sean Lee Steps Up

In the second quarter, linebacker Leighton Vander Esch was injured. He ended up being diagnosed with a neck stinger and should be ready to play after the bye week. This injury forced linebacker Sean Lee to step up and have a bigger role.

Lee was once a big star on this Dallas defense and everyone knows just how good he was, and still is. After all, he is a one-time first-team All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowler. One problem Lee always had, was injuries.

Sean Lee has never played a full NFL season. That is the main reason why he has a reduced role with the Cowboys. Well … that and having LVE and Jaylon Smith helps out a lot too.

Sean Lee needed to step up on Sunday, and he did. He had six solo tackles and one pass defended. On one drive in the fourth quarter, Lee was targeted four times. He immediately tackled the receiver three times, and almost intercepted the ball once while forcing an incompletion.

No, Sean Lee did not have a huge unbelievable play this game, but his contribution should be noted. He can still step up, as long as he is healthy. He has shown it over and over again.

When Sean Lee is healthy, he is one of the better coverage linebackers in the league. I don’t think that is too far-fetched to say.
