Is Dak Prescott at the core of the Dallas Cowboys skid?
Making the case
To take a tally, that is two of six interceptions that were really solely on Prescott. While he had a few that were called back due to penalty, they were called back. Perhaps some will say that makes up for the one that wasn’t called on Gallup.
His six interceptions rank him solely in fifth place among NFL quarterbacks, but if you consider the fact that only two are really all on him, that would rank him among a group of 10 others that rank from 22-32 on the list. While the numbers are what they are, logic is also logic.
Guess who still leads the league in QBR or total quarterback rating though? Yep, you guessed it. Not only does Prescott lead the league there, but he also ranks fifth in passer rating. These are two of the five most important statistics in the NFL for a quarterback, with the other three probably being interceptions, touchdowns, and completion percentage.
He also ranks fifth in completion percentage and third in touchdowns, while we discussed his interception situation earlier. The point that is being attempted to be made is that he really isn’t as bad as his interceptions would say he is.
In closing, the aforementioned has been said to say that one, Dak Prescott is not the problem or the reason for this back to back game skid that the Cowboys have endured. He is a part, although an important part, of a 22 man starting lineup that needs to be better for the Cowboys on both sides of the ball. Secondly, the Green Bay game and that game alone does not indicate whether he should or shouldn’t be the guy for the Cowboys moving forward.
Lastly, the narrative is false that he needs everything else and everyone around him to be at their absolute best to win games, but he shouldn’t always be the blame when they lose games because those around him were at their worst either. This references the line being in shambles, the skill positions dropping and/or fumbling balls, the referee’s not making appropriate calls, and perhaps even the coaches being too conservative early.
While Dak Prescott does bear some of the blame, I am not attempting to say that he is completely innocent here at all, he doesn’t deserve all that is being heaped upon him either. That is why I would say, no, he isn’t at the core of the Dallas Cowboys problems over the last two weeks, but he could be at the core of what it takes to fix them.
