GOOD – The receiving battle

This was a focal point last week and it continues into week two.

Michael Gallup continues to show huge improvements in his game. With Amari Cooper missing all week and the second preseason game, Gallup has stepped up and filled in well as the number one.

Last week, Cedrick Wilson appeared to have the fifth receiver spot locked up. This week, Devin Smith seems to have taken that role. Not only did Smith have a great week in camp, it carried over into game time, getting open a few times and scoring a touchdown.

It’s been said that the best ability is availability. With Wilson in concussion protocol, Smith has stepped up and made the coaches jobs difficult.

GOOD – Linebacker depth

The Dallas Cowboys are loaded at linebacker.

You know about Leighton Vander Esch, Jaylon Smith and Sean Lee. Last week Luke Gifford had a big game, this week Joe Thomas and Justin Phillips showed up and showed out.

The preseason is all about putting plays on tape and making a name for yourself.

Both Gifford and Phillips now have interceptions in back-to-back weeks. For a team that always seems to struggle creating turnovers, that’s a great way to make the team.

Two other huge standouts from Week 2: running back Tony Pollard and cornerback Donovan Olumba.
