During training camp, we have to rely on those reporters and team officials on the ground to give insight to what’s really happening with the Dallas Cowboys in training camp. Over the years, I have relied heavily on former scout and current dallascowboys.com writer, Bryan Broaddus.

In a recent dallascowboys.com mailbag, Broaddus was asked who his Week 1 MVP and potential camp MVP. Here’s how the former NFL scout responded and it should be music to the ears of Cowboys fans across the country:

"I think Maliek Collins has been outstanding. He might not win the award as the MVP but him and Tyron Smith have been outstanding. It’s about consistent each day and those two have not disappointed one bit."

While it is great to hear how well Collins is doing so far, the news on perennial All-Pro offensive tackle Tyron Smith cannot be understated. With the return of Frederick, the consistency of fellow All-Pro Zack Martin, the seeming leap forward of second year offensive guard Connor Williams, and La’el Collins being in a contract year, Smith was really the last question mark for the line.

Smith has played at such a high level throughout his career that last year seemed much worse than it was statistically. He battled stinger and back issues and it showed in his lack of bend and trouble in pass protection.

Although there are reports of the Dallas Cowboys taking precaution when it comes to playing Zack Martin due to his back, Tyron Smith’s health was a major concern. The offensive line is the key to a Super Bowl run and to have Broaddus make this observation is the third and last reason to be excited about the Dallas Cowboys training camp.
