The Dallas Cowboys, Ezekiel Elliott staring contest continues
By Chris Hill
The Dallas Cowboys selected Memphis Running Back Tony Pollard in the 4th round of 2019 NFL Draft. This might be the best pick in recent Cowboys history.
We talked about McClay and his ability to find talent that fits the Cowboys’ scheme, and I think running back Tony Pollard is the epitome of that philosophy. I believe he was selected specifically to fit offensive coordinator Kellen Moore‘s attempt to open up the offense.
Pollard’s 4.52 40-yard dash time may not jump off the page, but his highlight film sure will. There are some guys who once you put the ball in their hands, good things happen. Pollard is one of those players.
According to Sports Reference, Pollard scored 25 touchdowns at Memphis with nine rushing, nine receiving, and seven returns. He is a playmaker and will join a very talented offense in Dallas with weapons all over the field.
There are already reports coming out of Oxnard on NFL.com that Pollard will be expected to get reps at RB and not just as a trick player. This is encouraging and shows more of Moore’s impact on the offensive mentality.
At the end of the day, the Cowboys have two rookies with complimentary skill sets in Weber and Pollard. I believe they are key components in the future, but Ezekiel Elliott is the present.
My prediction is Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys brass will blink first and pay Elliott as the best back int he league. I also think that move will result in the Cowboys ending their season in the Super Bowl. I just hope for the fans it doesn’t take an 0-2 start to complete the deal.
