Dallas Cowboys: 5 big questions heading into the season
5. Can Safeties cut it?
While the Cowboys were reportedly interested in acquiring Earl Thomas over the past few seasons, he eventually signed with the Baltimore Ravens this past offseason. Although Jeff Heath and Xavier Woods performed admirably their last season, the Cowboys still thought that they needed to upgrade the room.
While many thought that they would look to take a safety high in the latest NFL draft, the Cowboys opted to draft safety Donovan Wilson out of Texas A&M in the sixth round.
Aside from the draft, they also brought in veteran safety George Iloka to give this unit some help. The Cowboys need improvement from the tenured players, a revelation from Iloka, or their newest rookie addition at safety to make a large impact if they want to achieve all that they possibly can this upcoming season.
It is absolutely necessary that this unit makes an impact this season in each and every game, as that would mean teams aren’t raiding the Cowboys through the air.
Although there are probably a few more questions that could possibly be asked or added here, these are the most imperative. If all these questions are answered the way that the Cowboys want them to, in their favor, the Cowboys should be primed to make another run in the playoffs. A run that could send them straight to Miami come February.
