Dallas Cowboys 2019 free agency primer: Tight End
By Tyrone Starr
How can the Dallas Cowboys maximize the tight end position?
With the Cowboys almost sure to lose receiver Cole Beasley in free agency and a young fresh mind in Kellen Moore at offensive coordinator, maybe it’s time for Dallas to better utilize the talent it already has in house.
The middle of the field could be a lot more available for work minus Beasley. Schultz and Jarwin started to really come on late in the year as well.
Seven of Schultz’s 12 catches came in December. Fourteen of Jarwin’s 27 catches came in the final month as well.
If Moore can figure out ways to get these two open, it’s possible that Dallas already has a one-two punch at its disposal.
What should the Dallas Cowboys do at tight end?
Personally, I would offer Jared Cook a one-year deal for around $3M. If he takes that, I would cut Gathers and roll with Cook, Jarwin and Schultz.
If Cook balks at the offer, I would stick with the three young guys and trust Moore to develop better game plans for the position.
My gut feeling though is that the Cowboys use either a third or fourth round pick on this position.
