Here’s why the Dallas Cowboys will continue to fail

I’m going to continue to bang this drum until I’m either proven wrong or this team goes in a different direction. Dak Prescott is not capable of being a starting quarterback for a Super Bowl contender. He’s not. He’s just not. I’m sorry. Maybe he can improve on the things that keep him from getting to that level, but it’s not going to happen with this staff.

The biggest issue is his reluctance to throw the ball when it needs to be thrown. In the NFL, you don’t wait for your receivers to get open before you release the ball. Most of the time, the ball should be out of your quarterback’s hands before the receiver becomes open.

Not only does Prescott need the receiver to be open before he throws, but he also needs a completely clean pocket to throw from. If you can pressure him, his mechanics completely break down and his throws become horribly inaccurate.

The numbers prove his incompetence at the position as well. In five weeks of the 2018 season, 38 quarterbacks have thrown 20+ attempts in a game. 27 of those 39 have multiple games with two or more touchdowns. Prescott is one of the eleven who do not.

Three of those eleven are rookies. The others? Sam Bradford, Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, Blaine Gabbert, Nick Foles, Derek Carr, Tyrod Taylor. Winston only played a half of a game. Mariota has been playing through an arm injury. Is that not enough for you? Do you need more? Okay here’s more…

Through five weeks, there have been 157 quarterback performances. As it pertains to yardage, Prescott’s five games rank 88th, 113th, 132nd, 136th, and 140th. Three times, Prescott has thrown for 170 yards or fewer. There have been only 25 of those performances all year.

Even with a better quarterback, there is still the albatross of this coaching staff. As bad as this offense is and as terrible as this quarterback more often than not, a better coaching staff would have this team at 3-2 or 4-1.
