More from The Landry Hat

To be the man, you got to beat the man. Until someone does that, the Eagles deserve the top spot.

Do they have questions? Absolutely.

Primarily, the fact that their franchise quarterback is not cleared for contact. That does not seem like something that’s just going to magically happen and be ready for immediately. If Nick Foles still has some magic left, then it won’t be a big deal. If Nick Foles turns back into Nick Foles, that will hurt.

The offense will also be missing the punch that LeGarrette Blount gave them and the explosiveness that Alshon Jeffery provides. Jeffery could be back in Week 4. Blount will be back only if the Detroit Lions and Eagles both make the playoffs and play each other.

That is a lot of change for a unit that dominated the league in 2018.

Defensively, the team will largely be the same although depth and talent at linebacker is a concern. If the defensive line can remain as potent as they were, some of that will be masked.

A drop-off of any kind and last year’s impressive numbers will reflect it as well.

Honestly, if it were not for the head coach, I’d probably peg the Eagles for second place, however that’s how much a good coach matters. The Cowboys think they have one. The Eagles have proven they do.
