Alex Smith – Washington Redskins (gold medal)

I know, I know. At first, I was a little shocked too. Facts are facts though and Alex Smith can ball.

For five straight years, teams under his leadership have had a winning record. He has routinely completed 65% or better of his passes four years in a row. Smith has never had worse than a 2:1 interception to touchdown ratio. Since 2010, he has thrown 146 touchdowns to just 53 interceptions.

Yes, he has a few limitations. Yes, there are certainly questions as it pertains to the talent level he will have in Washington. Still, Smith deserves his due.

The talent pool at wide receiver was never that deep in San Francisco or Kansas City with him at the helm. Clearly, that did not hold him back.

He might not be in this position heading into 2019 but his play, his salary and the lowest amount of question marks surrounding him personally give him the top spot.

For the record, it feels somewhat necessary to mention that Philadelphia, by far and away, has the best backup situation. If Colt McCoy, Alex Tanney or Cooper Rush see significant playing time, their teams will be draft high in 2019.

Under Nick Foles, the Eagles not only have the best backup in the division, but also likely the league.
