Dallas Cowboys: 15 best first-round picks of all-time
By John Buhler
Best first-round draft picks in Dallas Cowboys history: 10. Zack Martin
It’s hard to differentiate these next three stars for the Cowboys because their professional careers are currently intertwined. The first guy on this stellar Cowboys offensive line we’ll touch on is guard Zack Martin. Dallas took him with the No. 16 overall pick out of Notre Dame in the 2014 NFL Draft.
This was a wise move by the Cowboys, as owner Jerry Jones was keen on former Texas A&M Aggies and Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Johnny Manziel. We all know that would have been a disaster. Instead, the Cowboys drafted arguably the best guard in the NFC for the last half decade.
While Manziel busted with the Cleveland Browns, all Martin has done with Dallas is make Pro Bowls. He has been a Pro Bowler in all four of his professional seasons up to this point. Martin was a First-Team All-Pro in 2014 and 2016. He also earned Second-Team All-Pro honors in 2015 and 2017.
Martin has never missed a start in his first four NFL seasons. Both years that he was First-Team All-Pro, the Cowboys made the NFC playoffs with the best record in the conference. Martin won’t turn 28 until the end of November. Dallas looks to have a potential hall of fame level player at right guard in Martin. Let’s hope he keeps it up and doesn’t have to play anywhere else. The guy is incredible.
