Round 2 Pick 50: Jessie Bates S Wake Forest

The Cowboys address their issues in the secondary in round two, selecting safety Jessie Bates out of Wake Forest. With Byron Jones moving back to corner, the Cowboys have a clear need at the safety position.

Although the team has been rumored to show some interest in Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas, I believe the asking price will be too high, and Dallas ultimately will look to the draft to upgrade the position.

Bates is an athletic safety, and can be very versatile and play all over the field. He is a solid tackler, and is never afraid to put his nose in there and make a big hit. He can help in man coverage, and also could provide a boost on special teams.

Round 3 Pick 81: Josey Jewell LB Iowa

In the third round, the Cowboys find their replacement for Anthony Hitchens, with another Iowa linebacker, Josey Jewell.

Since the beginning of the offseason, it was pretty clear the Cowboys would need to upgrade the linebacker position.

While I still do expect Dallas to sign a veteran linebacker in free agency, I think they would be thrilled to select Jewell in the third round.

Jewell is an instinctive, smart linebacker, who is always around the ball and would be a perfect replacement for Hitchens.
