Should the Dallas Cowboys add some insurance for Ezekiel Elliott?
By Carl Daley
Chris Johnson had a pretty solid season with the Arizona Cardinals and proved to be a terrific teammate and productive offensive weapon. Johnson looked significantly fresher when he would spell running back David Johnson and could be worth a look.
Starks is more of a long shot as he has struggled to make an impression on opposing defenses recently. The most productive time of his career was early on with the Green Bay Packers but a lot of that success could be attributed to the team’s dangerous passing attack.
There are also players who could be released during training camp as several running backs should find themselves on the roster bubble. The Philadelphia Eagles will likely part ways with Ryan Mathews as his release would save around $4 million.
The Washington Redskins should also look to release a veteran running back as former starter, Matt Jones may not make the final cut. Jones has had some pretty eye-popping performances but the Redskins offensive struggles have hampered his production and new talent at the position has limited his opportunities.
Jones could be a bargain in the late days of camp. The New England Patriots should also part with a running back they have added several players during the offseason. Brandon Bolden and D.J. Foster could be fighting for a spot on the roster as only one of them should make the final cut.
There should be plenty of interesting names floating around as camp begins and injuries pile up. Hopefully, the Cowboys will not have to worry about Zeke being off the field anytime soon as he looks to continue his stellar NFL career.
