COWBOYS OFFENSIVE TACKLE IN FLUX

While Doug Free’s retirement is still unofficial, it appears Chaz Green is set to take over at right offensive tackle.

Green has only been healthy for four games since his third round selection in 2015. He’s missed 29 of 33 possible games with injury.

The Cowboys are less than comfortable betting their season and dominant line identity on Green’s ability to stay healthy.

Tackle uncertainty has created a real need, though the draft is thin on elite tackles.

There are three tackles mentioned in first round mock drafts. Ryan Ramczyk (Wisconsin) is the top-rated tackle and would entice Dallas greatly.

Cam Robinson (Alabama) is a big mauler. Garett Bolles (Utah) is lighter, yet highly mobile and aggressive. The Cowboys could find early value in the one they prefer.

Personally I’d pass and target Ethan Pocic (LSU) in the third round. While featured at center, he has tackle size (6’6, 310) and played all three line positions in college.

If Green were injured, Pocic’s versatility would provide multiple line options.

However, Dallas may be set on finding a pure tackle who can start as a rookie. If so, their second pick is likely too late to find that tackle in this draft.
