Round 3 (92nd overall)

Derek Rivers- 6’4″ 250 pounds- edge rusher- Youngstown State

Rivers is going to be a player that rises up draft boards as he becomes better known.

He played against weaker competition in FCS but he dominated the lower level of competition which is exactly what you want to see.

Rivers is another high motor player that doesn’t take snaps off, which bodes well for him earning time as part of the pass rush rotation.

He is quick to get his hands on blockers which gives him an advantage in capturing the edge.

His burst is very impressive and knows how to stay low to bend around the corner.

He knows how to convert his speed to power.

Rivers may struggle in a base defense or when playing the run against offensive tackles.

For being tall, his arm length is average and if he doesn’t get his hands on long armed linemen first, he can get swallowed up.

Rivers is an upgrade to the pass rush in nickel situations and could be a valuable part of the rotation with potential to develop into a weak side starter.
