4. Ezekiel Elliott will eclipse 2,000 rushing yards

Zeke currently has 891 rushing yards to his name. At this pace, he’ll have 1,782 yards for the year. Not a bad mark.

But…

• With 1,782 yards he’ll miss DeMarco Murray‘s franchise setting record of 1,845 yards in 2014

• With 1,782 yards he’ll just eclipse Emmitt Smith’s mark of 1,773 yards in 1995

• With 1,782 yards he’ll miss Eric Dickerson‘s rookie setting record of 1,808 rushing yards in 1983

Whew. That’s a few milestones right in Zeke’s realm.

Not only do I think he’ll pass Murray and Dickerson’s records, I believe Zeke is destined to become the eighth player in NFL history to reach the 2K milestone. Seven running backs have done it, and they are:

• Eric Dickerson | 1984 | 2,105

Adrian Peterson | 2012 | 2,097

Jamal Lewis | 2003 | 2,066

Barry Sanders | 1997 | 2,053

Terrell Davis | 1998 | 2,008

Chris Johnson | 2009 | 2,006

O.J. Simpson | 1973 | 2,003

Zeke will have to run his best against good defenses coming up, but with the Cowboys making a push for the playoffs, expect offensive coordinator Scott Linehan to stick with the best offensive line in the NFL and his running back.
