Why Tony Romo is not a Top 10 UDFA of all-time
Willie Wood
Playing at college as a quarterback after signing for the Packers he made the flip to defense. Clearly a move that worked for the best as the Hall of Famer became a 5 time NFL Champion and won the first two Super Bowls.
Joe Perry
Playing most of his sixteen year career as fullback for the San Francisco 49ers, Perry became the first player to ever rush for 1000 yards in back to back seasons- 1953-1954.
A 3 time Pro Bowler was inducted to the Hall of Fame in 1969. The 49ers subsequently retired his #34 jersey.
Lou Groza
Lou ‘the toe’ Groza played a dual role of tackle and kicker in his career with the Cleveland Browns than spanned nearly two decades. He lead the league on five occasions as the top kicker, with three coming back to back.
A 9 time Pro Bowler and 4 time NFL Champion. The Lou Groza award is handed out to the best College Kicker. Cowboys own Dan Bailey won the award in 2010.
Cliff Harris
In nine years playing for the Dallas Cowboys, defensive back Cliff Harris was voted to 6 Pro Bowls, won 5 NFC Championships and 2 Super Bowl’s.
A member of the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor, “Captain Crash” arguably defined the safety position with his intensity and ferocious tackling.
Cornell Green
Like Harris, Cornell Green was a Cowboys defensive back. In twelve years he won a Super Bowl and got 5 Pro Bowl nods. He never missed a single game in his NFL career.
His path to football was unusual in the he was actually a college basketball player! However, the career change worked. After his playing career was over he took up scouting, and is currently a scout on the Denver Broncos staff.
So why no Tony Romo???
