Emmitt Smith

There are some mighty big Emmitt Smith-sized to fill in Dallas. And without a doubt Ezekiel Elliott has the tools to fill them. If the NFL’s all-time leading rusher thinks so, then who are we to disagree?

"“The kid has tremendous, tremendous talent. I think he’s going to be an impact player for the Dallas Cowboys for a long time. He has a great line in front of him already. He has speed. He can take it to the house. Agility, he has that. He has soft hands, so he can catch the ball out of the backfield. He’s willing to block. So pass protection is awesome. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a first-, second- and third-down back… We’ve got a five-star backfield as far as I’m concerned.” – Emmitt on Elliott"

While it’s too early to consider Elliott surpassing Emmitt in terms of Cowboys productivity, Charean Williams from The Star Telegram pointed out how startlingly similar the two running backs college stats are.

Now if Elliott can mirror Smith’s NFL career of being a three-time Super Bowl winner, eight-time Pro Bowler and the league’s all-time rushing leader; then that would be just fabulous. But for now, I’d be happy to see Zeke rush for 1,000+ yards and 10 touchdowns during his rookie year.
