What Not To Love: Defensive End Draft Position
I like the Maliek Collins pick, I really do… I just wish he were a defensive end instead of an interior defender. Dallas would go on to select Charles Tapper a defensive end in the 4th round.
But after making the Jaylon Smith pick in the 2nd it just feels like the 4th is a round too late to be selecting defensive end. By most accounts end was the biggest need for the defense entering the draft, yet the team didn’t address that most pressing need until the 4th round.
The defender who was taken in the 3rd, Maliek Collins, now enters a crowded defensive tackle depth chart while the end position waits a whole round full of talent later before adding to their stable of rushers.
Maybe we aren’t as confident in the edge rusher as the front office obviously is but isn’t that the kind of scary part?
Why does this front office have so much confidence in a group of defensive ends who probably have a combined 30 career sacks between them?
I guess we’ll find out when the season starts.
