What it really means to be a Dallas Cowboys fan
About Staying on the Dallas Cowboys Bus
For a team with little success to no success the past two decades, the bus is sure getting full. I don’t know what attracts people to the team, to the history, to the players and uniforms. It can’t be the cheerleaders, though they are doing a fine job and earn every credit there is.
From my point of view, the team has given fans more reasons than not to jump off the wagon. There have been more 8-8 and 5-11 finishes than playoff sightings, more bottom of the division finishes than first round byes.
Yet fans pile in. Old fans. New fans. Doesn’t matter – we all make room and cram in.
Owner and general manager Jerry Jones, who I feel more and more each day is mirroring the Emperor in those Star Wars movies, has it all wrong about the Cowboys foundation. The foundation isn’t networked by all the merchandise sold, or the number of tickets sold at the end of the year.
The fabric of the star is held together by the fans.
Rain. Shine. Loss. Win.
Fans are there, despite the losing records and humiliation. Super Bowl time is an awful reminder of a long ago 1996 – the last year the Cowboys appeared in and won a Super Bowl.
The end of the Super Bowl means spring time. A signal to a new start.
September is the month where anything can happen. Ask any Dallas Cowboys fan about this. They’ll give you a thumbs up, a Go Cowboys shout, a high-five and maybe a hug.
The network of fans are banded together for the ride, even if it knowingly means going over a cliff. I wouldn’t have any other way.
See you on the bus.
