Could the Cowboys be interested in these troubled players?

Dion Jordan, DE, Miami Dolphins

Height: 6’6” Weight: 275

Born: March 5, 1990 (age 25)

Draft: 2013 1st round (3rd pick)

Dion Jordan is another talented young player that for some reason or another hasn’t been able to get his act together yet in the NFL, and like Josh Gordon he missed the entire 2015 season due to a year-long suspension that was handed down due to violating the league’s substance and abuse policy.

The Miami Dolphins traded up in the 2013 NFL Draft to select Jordan with the third overall pick, but thus far he has yet to live up to their lofty expectations. In fact, he has only registered a total of 46 tackles and a measly three quarterback sacks. Hardly numbers that would be considered impressive.

So why would the Cowboys even be interested in adding a player like Jordan that has failed to live up to his draft status and is considered by many to be a bust?

Well, I’m not sure they would to be honest. Especially since it was rumored that the Dolphins were trying to trade him before the league handed a down his year-long suspension and we didn’t hear him being connected to the Cowboys, but that was then and this is now.

There is no denying that the Cowboys need help with their pass rush and acquiring a young talented defensive end such as Jordan could be one of those low risk high reward types of moves that Jerry Jones loves to make.

I am willing to bet that defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli can find a way to tap into Jordan’s talent and if nothing else at least become a good rotational player for the Cowboys defense.

Jordan has the prototypical size that Marinelli likes in his defensive ends and he has all the talent needed to be successful in the NFL, but you have to wonder about his mental makeup and his desire to become successful at this level.

Who knows if this will even become an option because Jordan is still under contract with the Miami Dolphins and like the Cowboys they also are in need of pass rushers heading into the 2016 season. But like the Cleveland Browns, the Dolphins are also in a coaching regime change hiring Adam Gase as their head coach and he may just want to distance themselves from a player that can’t seem to stay on the field.

If you have forgotten why Dion Jordan was drafted so highly take a look at the Sports Science video and see for yourself why the Cowboys may be intrigued at adding him to the roster despite his off the field troubles.

Overall, these are two talented young players that may still have a long and successful NFL career if they are indeed reinstated.

If I had a choice between the two I would definitely look into acquiring Josh Gordon because I believe he have more of an impact for the Cowboys then Jordan would, but I would definitely kick the tires on both players.

Of course, this is all just speculation because both of these players are under contract with other teams and as of yet have not been reinstated to play in the NFL, but they are both players that could get a second chance and why shouldn’t that second chance be with the Cowboys.

Let me hear what you think in the comments section below. Should the Cowboys take a chance on either of these players? Do you prefer one of them over the other?
