The Dallas Cowboys put together an offseason for the ages this year. Incredibly, their latest maneuver might be the best of the bunch.

Per multiple reports, the Cowboys and cornerback Trevon Diggs have agreed to a five-year, $97 million contract extension.

With incentives, Diggs' deal is worth up to $104 million. It also includes a $21.25 million signing bonus.

Diggs will pocket $19.4 million annually, which is actually less than what folks expected him to get after Denzel Ward and Jaire Alexander -- two corners who, with Diggs, are in the upper echelon at the position -- signed for north of $20 million per year with the Browns and Packers, respectively, within the last calendar year.

It'll be interesting to see how much guaranteed money is baked into the deal. Dez Bryant hinted during a Twitter Spaces last week that might be a point of contention in negotiations, but that's all water under the bridge now.

The Cowboys simply had to get this done. With ample high-level quarterbacks and receivers, cornerback has evolved into a premium position. The league's elite pocket around $20 million per year and Diggs, a free agent to be after 2023 before Tuesday's news, undoubtedly deserved to join that group.

As a rookie, Diggs established himself as a raw talent at the position. While he still gets beat occasionally for chunk plays, his discipline has steadily improved over the years. Still, he was a first-team All-Pro in year two after he recorded 11 interceptions -- tied for the most in a single season in Cowboys history.

A second-round pick in 2020, Diggs is already a two-time Pro Bowler, no CB has tallied more interceptions since he was drafted and he's only missed four games in three years.

Like we said: Extending Diggs was a no-brainer decision.

Next up on the agenda is resolving Zack Martin's camp holdout and making CeeDee Lamb one of the game's highest-paid receivers. At the rate the Cowboys have clubbed home runs this offseason, we're oozing confidence.
