The 8-3 Dallas Cowboys will be getting reinforcements over the course of the next week. The only question remaining is just how extensive those reinforcements are.

Star lineman Tyron Smith should return to practice next week, per Coach Mike McCarthy on Friday — at least, he’s hopeful that will be the case. Smith’s arrival should allow the team to shift Tyler Smith back to left guard (for the time being), as long as Jerry Jones has his druthers. Also returning to practice, somewhat under the radar, is wideout James Washington, the hometown hero free agent who hasn’t gotten much of a chance to be heroic this season.

The wide receiver everybody’s asking about, though, is Odell Beckham Jr., who wraps up his free agency tour this weekend. We think.

For the first time in a while, it seems Dallas’ pursuit may actually have a hurdle to overcome here.

More Cowboys News

Giants insider Jordan Raanan broke down the Beckham chase on Saturday, claiming that one thing that has emerged is that Odell wants to return to New York.

Of course he does, though. He wouldn’t have given the Giants the time of day in Year 1 of a rebuild otherwise. The fact remains that the Cowboys give Beckham Jr. the better chance to win, both now and likely in 2023.

And that’s what this deal is really about, right? The majority of OBJ’s impact will come next season, and the Cowboys or Giants will have to decide whether they’re willing (and able) to make a significant financial commitment into an uncertain future. Neither team has much cap wiggle room. The Cowboys are wilier.

Beckham’s Cowboys visit comes on Dec. 5.

Before that day arrives, Dallas still has one thing to accomplish: beating the Indianapolis Colts. With both Trevon Diggs and Michael Gallup expected to play after battling illness this week, that task should get a bit easier.

NFL News

  • CB Kenny Moore and OL Braden Smith are OUT for the Colts against Dallas this weekend. Big losses.
  • Josh Allen and the Bills tutored Matt Patricia on what an offense looks like in Thursday night’s matchup in New England. Hopefully he took notes on his laminated playsheet.
  • Joe Mixon and Ja’Marr Chase are both questionable against the Chiefs, taking a bit of the shine off the possible game of the weekend.
