Some tough cuts are ahead for the Dallas Cowboys as they have to trim their roster down to 53 players by Tuesday, Aug. 30 at 4:00 pm EST. As always, they have to take several things into consideration when making these choices, including the health of their players.

That’s a theme this season more than ever as they have two wideouts on the shelf as well as their best offensive lineman. The cuts won’t be easy but here’s a guess at how things might look for Dallas when they get ready to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1.

Quarterback (2):

Dak Prescott
Cooper Rush

This one ended up being harder than anticipated. Dak Prescott is clearly the No. 1 guy but Dallas had a tough battle going on behind him. Cooper Rush and Will Grier have been fighting for the second spot and Grier was able to make a lot of noise.

He’s more mobile than Rush and fires the ball with a bit more velocity. The problem is, he’s dealt with some injuries — which kept him out of Week 1 of the preseason — and while he played well, he didn’t really prove to be a huge upgrade over Rush.

For that reason, this staff likely sticks with Rush, who they know and trust. He’s not flashy but you don’t need your backup quarterback to be that. You just need to know he can run the offense, and Rush can.

As for the third option, Grier will likely be claimed but Ben DiNucci should sneak through waivers. Adding him to the practice squad gives them an emergency option that has been in the system for a few years now.
