3 Cowboys players to watch in Preseason Week 2 vs. Chargers

2. Nahshon Wright, Cornerback
Not everything Nahshon Wright did against Denver was bad. He played tight coverage and showed much more strength than he displayed as a rookie. He also had an interception, but that didn’t count since he was flagged for holding. Things got worse from there as he surrendered a touchdown to Kendall Hinton in the second half.
Drafted for his 6-foot-4 frame and impressive athleticism, Wright was on the thin side in year one but has put in the work. Even when he was beaten by Hinton, he was in a solid position and just didn’t make the play.
For cornerbacks, this is bound to happen but they need to have short-term memories and move on from such plays. The good news for Wright is that he showed power when making his tackles, finishing with a team-high seven. He should be on the field often in Week 2 again as the coaching staff wants to see him continue to develop.
They made a significant investment in him a year ago and while he might not be a regular contributor on the base defense in the regular season, there’s still an expectation that he will become a starter down the road. In order for that to happen, he needs these reps in the preseason and this should be a great opportunity for him to continue to show his growth as a player.
